Walking the Kerry Way between Killarney and Kenmare
In a nutshell:
Distance: 180 - 210 kms (7-9 days of walking)
Shorter option: If you have just a few days take only the most beautiful stages between Killarney and Glenbeigh: 60 kms (3-5 days), or from Killarney to Kenmare and Waterville (55-90 km)
Direction: The Kerry Way can be done in any direction and be started at any stage. "Teaser" options for individual stages would especially
make sense when staying in Black Valley (with a variety of more walks), at Lough Acoose (Glencar -
with the option to climb Ireland's highest mountain), in Waterville (with the option of a 30 kms Kerry Way Loop) and in Sneem (with two new additional Loop Walks as part of the Kerry Way Net)
Additional Options: There are plenty of additional walks and things to see along your way and between stages. Some of them are described on the following pages. For the recommended excursions/additional walking options/side trips: Add 1 day per stage (see also text on following pages)
Difficulty: easy to moderate, on excursions/additional walking options (see text): easy to demanding. Short portions of the Track follow major roads which are narrow at times and can be very busy. Extra care is needed.
Who: Suits only well equipped and well prepared walkers! Rain gear and waterproof hiking boots are essential. As the track is not always clearly visible it is strongly recommended to bring good topographical Maps (see below) and a GPS device (incl. spare batteries!). Mobile phone receiption
is not always available!
Accommodation & Transport: (see Text on the following pages)
All the recommended B&Bs are prepared for walkers and provide luggage transfer, transport, lunch packages, evening meals, drying facilities! Bus Transport (Bus Eireann) is available from the villages on the Ring of Kerry to/from Killarney and Kenmare.
